“The best experience I’ve had in my high school life!” – Savannah
A SEMESTER EXPERIENCE LIKE NO OTHER
Since 1995, students from public, private, and home schools across the country have come to our 182-acre campus in the Blue Ridge Mountains to spend a challenging academic semester away. Our place-based curriculum is integrated with wilderness experiences (backpacking, whitewater paddling, and rock climbing), environmental education, and creative arts (including traditional crafts such as blacksmithing, wood carving, and quilting).
At OA, your honors-level classes will be small and personalized, your teachers will also be blacksmiths and rock-climbing experts, and your new classmates will become lifelong friends.

What School Should Be
OA is what school should be. Everyone at OA chooses to go there, so there is a positive energy around classes and learning that is not found at regular schools.

Enjoy Learning
OA is an amazing place where you can truly enjoy learning. I found that OA has motivated me to put a lot more effort into school, work, and my hobbies. I think OA has changed the way that I think about the world and has very positively affected my mindset, and the way I view myself.
